Shirley Matthews

SHIRLEY ANN MATTHEWS-SYDNOR, daughter of the late Elsie Scott and George Matthews, was born on October 1, 1952 in Catonsville, Maryland. She departed this life after a lengthy illness on November 28, 2018.

Shirley received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She then became employed as a "housekeeper" at the Holiday Inn in Towson, Maryland.

Shirley accepted her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a proud member and usher for many years at Maranatha Baptist Church. She was very particular of how she kept her white usher uniform and shoes. You could always find her talking about how good God is, and how she loved Him.

In 2008, she met and married, Mike Sydnor.

Shirley made numerous friends wherever she went and will be sincerely missed by everyone who knew her. She was a very devoted sister, mother, wife and friend.

Shirley leaves to mourn: her husband, Mike Sydnor; children, the late Samuel Nelson, who preceded her in death, Terry Weddington, Kevin Nelson (Lakisha), Sherry Jones-Nophlin (Leon Nophlin), TavonJones, Sean Jones (Marissa), Julius Jones and David Johnson;sisters, the late Elsie Sutton, who preceded her in death, Cynthia Middleton, Geraldnay Barnett, Evelyn Chase, Levurn Snipes, Juanita Thomas and Lisa Holland; brothers, the late Earl Corporal, George Matthews, James Matthews and Wayne Scott, all who preceded her  in death, Charles Matthews, Wallace Scott, Michael Scott and Rodney Scott; brother-in-laws, the late James Barnett and Timothy Snipes, who preceded her in death, James Sutton, Leanard Middleton and Alvin Thomas; sister-in-laws, Gloria Scott and the late Katrina Scott, who preceded her in death; twenty grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a special friend, Beverly Bell, her caretaker, Roxanne Adams and a host of other relatives and friends.
