Listen to Obituary

SHIRLEY ALBERTA GILL, beloved daughter of the late Robert Smith and Picolar Smith, was born on January 28, eleventh born of twelve children. On Thursday, November 21, 2019, she departed this earthly life and went home to be with the Lord following a brief illness.

She received her early education through the Baltimore Public School System. She was baptized and accepted the Lord at an early age.

Shirley was affectionately called Shale, Shelly and Big Shirley. Shirley was a fun, loving person who was always full of life, laughter and always greeted you with her big smile. She was one who never gave up and who always found the strength to "weather a storm". A woman of great courage and strength: a valiant warrior to the end! Shirley never claimed defeat.

Shirley loved to cook. She was born with flavor in her hands. She never met a person who didn't like her. She welcomed everyone in her home and never denied them a meal.

Shirley loved music, especially oldies but goodies. She also loved to hear Bible Stories.

Shirley has fought a good fight, she has finished her course, she has kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give her at that day; and not to her only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. So weep not, but Rejoice, for she has gone to be with the Lord!

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Gill, Jr, her son, Antonio Gregory Myers, her daughter, Raychelle Talania Corday, her granddaughter, Talania Shirleeta Davis, and other brothers and sisters. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Alisa C. Corday of Charlotte, NC; one nephew, who she raised as her son, Shakell A. Bell of Selinsgrove, PA; two brothers, Morris Smith of Windsor Mill, MD and Theodore Smith of Newark, NJ; one sister, who never left her side through her illness, Grace Miller of Odenton, MD; her favorite niece, Shirleeta Heard of Millersville, MD; nine grandchildren, Arthur, Nitisha, Corey, Nytaya, Tony, Gregory Jr., Shakell Jr., Scotlyn , Delayni; ten great-grands; three devoted friends, Debbie, Rita and Mary; and a host of relatives and friends.
