Listen to Obituary

SHIRLEY MAE ANDERSON was born to the late Adelaide Anderson (Braxton) on March 2, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She departed this life on Sunday, March 11, 2018 after a brief illness.

Shirley received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Douglass High School in 1953. She later graduated and received her Standard Teacher's Training Certification from the Eastern and Southern States Counsel.

In 1960, Shirley married Nolan Cornish. They were married for 57 years and raised two daughters, Cynthia and Claudette.

She worked at Fort Meade Laundry, London Fog and retired from St. Mary's Seminary as a seamstress.

At a young age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Shirley was a faithful member of Faith Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. During her tenure there, she held the following positions: Treasurer of the Missionary and Foreign Missions Department, sand on the adult choir, devotional leader, baptism committee, served on the communion committee and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a prayer warrior and faithfully attended noonday prayer. She loved the Lord with all her heart.

Shirley loved her family. Family was very important to her both her blood family and her church family. Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Shirley adored her. She was very comical, even when she wasn't trying to be. Anyone she had a conversation with knew immediately that she was a sweetheart and that she loved her Lord. She enjoyed walking and talking, singing and laughing, praying and praising. She enjoyed church the most-that truly was her home away from home.

Left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Nolan C. Cornish; two daughters, Claudette and Cynthia; three grandsons, Arnell and wife Elaine, Ali and wife Deborah, Tavon and partner Virginia; one granddaughter, Lakiesha; 12 great-grandchildren, Arnell II, Delvasz, Jessica, Raymond Jr., Jasmine, Jada, Daijah, Ryjae, Jenelle, Rodney Jr., Jahrell, Maurice; four great-great grandchildren, one sister-in-law; five brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
