SAMUEL RUDOLPH JOHNSON was born on July 18, 1942, to William Johnson and Aleta Jackson. Residing in Baltimore City, he received his early education in the Baltimore City Public School System. While in the military he obtained his G.E.D., receiving an honorable discharge for his service to his country.
Sam affectionately named "Cat-Daddy" for his sense of style, he was sharp from head to toe in his matching ensembles. Sam treated everybody with the same regard, lending a helping hand to whomever was in need. He would take the coat off his back for someone in need. Though Sam was incredibly quiet, he possessed great wisdom and a sense of humor.
He added value to any conversation. He loved to walk through Baltimore City sharing his wisdom with the younger men. His favorite thing to do was to make sure that you were fed, not only physically but mentally. Sam a good standing member of New Mt. Zion Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor James E. Johnson Sr. was appointed the title of Deacon and served his church family faithfully. Sam was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
Samuel Johnson had three brothers that preceded him in death. Sam passed peacefully in his home after his battle with cancer on December 19, 2022. Sam leaves to mourn his wife of 18 years, Jan Johnson his biological daughter, Sharon Bean and grandchildren, Kenneth Bean, Kevin Bean and Michelle Yates; great-grandchild, Addison Bean. Through the union with Jan he gained 5 children, 1 son, Bruce Ellison and 3 bonus daughters, Maya Shird ( son-in-law, Paul Shird), Shayla Redfearn and Sharee Chaney and 2 grandchildren, Kabreia Ellison and Brielle Ellison. His beloved nephew Clyde stood by his side till he closed his eyes. He also leaves behind his special friends James and Deacon Roosevelt Holmes, along with a host of family and friends that he was impacted over the years.
