Runette Taylor was born to the late Leon and Lizzie Bell Davis on January 7, 1935 in Wrightsville, Georgia. After a lengthy illness Runette transitioned to her heavenly home on her birthday, January 7, 2025 to be with her Lord and Savior. Henceforth, there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord himself shall give her.
Runette moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1953 with her late aunt Mary Dell.
Runette accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was baptized at First Charity Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. T.C. Turner at the old location 611-15 Aisquith St., Baltimore, Maryland. She was a dedicated member of 60 plus years attending Sunday worship service faithfully until her health began to fail. Runette was a member of the Senior Usher Board and sang on the gospel chorus. She also served on the bereavement and Culinary Ministries.
She met her late husband Sellerd in 1953 and they married on February 20, 1964 and out of their union six children were born.
Runette had an agricultural job with Charles Ritter for many years as a field worker harvesting vegetables. She would gladly share those goods with family and friends. She also worked at the famous Virginia Bakery for many years. Runette worked hard for many years not knowing she was showing good work ethics adapted by her children.
Runette loved, loved siting on her stoop people watching but some may say being nosey but she would make herself aware of her surroundings and the activities in the neighborhood. She also would keep a small garden often planting tomatoes, peppers and okra her favorite things.
Once upon a time Runette belonged to a social club with her daughter DeLois and other ladies planning cabarets and cooking and selling soul food dinners. Runette also enjoyed going to amusement parks with the children and grandchildren. Runette had a special bond with most of the grandchildren often giving them funny rhyming names. Runette also loved sweets; cakes, cookies, candy and she knew she was limited to the portions she could have but had people leaving candy in her mailbox (that was a ganster move). Of all the things that Runette loved at the top was praising the Lord which was something she did everyday she would speak his name and the “Song I Won’t Complain” was befitting because she never complained.
Preceded her in death was her husband Sellard, her beloved son Adam Troy, her daughter-in-law, Tonya and granddaughter Erica.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters; DeLois, Vivian/Beaver (Leonard), Tawanda, three sons; Swindell, of Wrightsville, Ga., Wyman and Edward (Angela), sixteen, grandchildren; Putrina, Kenneth, Angela, Takia, Raven, Nicole, Natalie, Yasiel, Xavier, Sellard, Amada, Adam, Jr., Jessica, Takia, Claudia and Jerome; thirty-three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; two sisters; Leila, Barbara (Alvin, Sr.), Wrightsville , GA; two brothers Felton, Snellville, GA and Escar, Wrightsville, GA. one sister in law, Lillie Pearl/Aunt Duke of Fort Pierce, Florida along with host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends who will deeply miss you.
