Listen to Obituary

Roger "Pitmo" Pryor was the youngest child born to the late Isaac Pryor and Lillian Douglas on January 11, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. Our beloved Roger was called from labor to reward at the Gilchrist Center Baltimore - Joseph Richey House.

Roger received his education in Baltimore City Public Schools. He worked various jobs in Baltimore and worked at Hunt Point Market in Bronx, New York. He lived in New York for 30 years. Roger was the proud owner of JC's Light Moving & Hauling in Baltimore.

Roger loved serving the Lord. He was a member of Greater Bright Light Missionary Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. In his later years, he became a faithful member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, where he loved his pastor, church and church family. Roger sang on the Men's Chorus and he was a dedicated volunteer hauling weekly for the Soup Kitchen.

During the 1960's and 70's, Roger was a popular arabber in Baltimore. His wagon and truck would be filled with fresh produce as he made his way around the city making friends with everyone he met.

Roger's favorite pastimes were watching TV, especially sports and westerns, attending family functions and social events, taking trips to Atlantic City and the Hampton Jazz Festival and eating good food, including his favorites...ice cream, peaches and Utz potato chips.

In December 1993, Roger married the love of his life, Joan E. Richburg, who faithfully stayed by his bedside during his illness.

Roger was a devout family man who loved all of his relatives. On holidays, he fit every family gathering into his schedule, supporting them all. He didn't mind travelling from one side of town to the other to share special holiday moments with his family.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 21 years, Joan E. Pryor and seven children: Roger Pryor Jr, Michelle Pryor, Lenear Pryor, Brian Pryor, Charisse Persaud (Maurice), Marva Williams and Cynthia Dyke; 10 grandchildren: Takisha, Lanitra (Daniel), Charonda, Kiara, Gerald, Breanna, Mahki, Liyannah, Brian and Jenell; six great-grandchildren: Taylor, Daniel Jr., David, Moses, Saige and Layla; one loving sister, Ella Leach (Earl); two sisters-in law, Marva Thorne (William) and Francine Richburg; devoted uncle of Dianell, Tammy, Will and Barry; favorite cousin to Vernon (Bo Bo) and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Hill and two brothers, Joseph Pryor and Earl Pryor.
