Roger Lee Campbell was born on March 7, 1954 in Nelson County, Virginia. He was the fifth of six children born to the late Howard Pettus Campbell and Mary Louise Rose-Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Howard Jr., John, James, and Gary.
Roger was baptized at an early age in the “James River” in Nelson County, Virginia and accepted his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at Pine Hill Baptist Church.
Roger was raised in Baltimore City and educated in Baltimore City Public Schools. He graduated from Lake Clifton High School where, in addition to obtaining a quality education, he met countless lifelong friends. He was a strong and productive individual throughout his life. Steadfast in his beliefs, Roger (Reds) was deeply committed to his many friends and loved them as brothers, especially Marvin, Fellow, Shawn and his special cousin, Craig.
Roger was employed by the Summit Chemical Company for thirty-nine plus years where he was promoted to the position of supervisor. He was well regarded by his co-workers and shared a special bond with his bosses, Jonny and Sam, who were more like friends than employers. For many years, Roger operated his own car repair shop in the city until he was no longer physically able.
Roger liked to socialize with his friends and enjoyed travelling. He also enjoyed listening to oldies and singing along with the artists. At one of the last birthday celebrations he attended in honor of his sister, Roger was singing along with the Temptations, one of his favorite performers. For those of us present, that smile on his face will always be remembered.
Roger leaves to mourn his passing, his two children, Erica and Dontae, Sr. (Nyquia); his sister, Lillian; his soulmate, Michell; five grandchildren, Shy’Liyah, Hailey, Dontae, Jr., Aubree, and Savannah; one great grandson, Amari; extended family members, Brian, Dominique, Giana, Nakyah, Aarik, Derodd, Amour, and Bryson; his two aunts, Rose and Bessie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
