Rodney Nesbit , better known to many as “Reds” was born on October 26, 1965, in Baltimore, Maryland, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, the cherished son of the late Willie Neal and Elizabeth (nee Vaughan) Nesbit and the oldest of a set of twins. He peacefully departed this life on September 28,2025.
Rodney's educational journey began at Madison Square Elementary School #26 and culminated with his graduation from Lake Clifton Senior High School with the class of 1984. His early years ignited a lifelong passion for art and architecture. Rodney was a talented artist who loved drawing and painting, leaving his mark early on as the first to create a mural on the gym wall of the Oliver Recreation Center. He possessed a unique zest for life, which included his deep affection for his car—a love so strong he was known for washing it even in the rain. A man of diverse skills, Rodney was never afraid of hard work. He held various jobs throughout his life, ranging from employment at youth programs to working as a City sanitation worker. He even ran his own landscaping business on the side. Despite his tireless work ethic, he was often quick to share whatever he had.
Rodney accepted Christ at an early age, being baptized at 16 years old at Grace Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. C.D. Vaughn. He was also affiliated with New Antioch Church and Zion Baptist Church of Baltimore, Maryland. Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Willie Neal, and his grandparents, Edward O. and Bernice O. Vaughn, as well as several aunts and uncles.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Elizabeth Nesbit; his five children: Rodney Nesbit Jr., Camara D. Nesbit (“Pink”), Rodney Nesbit Jr. (“Little Reds"), Daquan Nesbit, and Kelphon Whitfield; and his seven siblings: Karen Nesbit-Dunlap, Earl I. Nesbit Jr. (Valerie ), Royal D. Nesbit, twin sister Robin Lightner (Kenny Lightner Sr.), Kelvin Nesbit Sr. , aka “Kevin”, (Emily Nesbit), Lucretia Williamson, and Warren Neal Sr. He will also be dearly missed by his very dear friend, Michelle McCoy, his longtime brother, John Edmondson, eight. grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.
The family will forever hold Rodney’s creativity, passion, and spirit close to their hearts. They will never forget his favorite phrase: “ Got a Dollar”
