Robert S.
Stewart
August 14, 1946 – March 11, 2026
Robert Summerfield Stewart, one of fourteen children was born on August 14, 1946, to the late James H. Stewart and Margaret (Hill) Stewart. Robert transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest on March 11, 2026.
He was educated in the Baltimore Public Schools of Maryland, graduating from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
Affectionately known as “Robbie” he lived a life defined by faith, service, discipline and an unwavering commitment to excellence. A proud graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, Robert carried with him the values of hard work, determination and community that shaped his early years. He loved staying active, especially through tennis and swimming, two passions that brought him joy, focus and peace throughout his life.
From a young age Robbie showed a quiet but powerful determination an instinctive drive to reach the top of every mountain placed before him. He worked hard, he worked long and he never allowed obstacles to stand in the way of the goals he set for himself. A man of purpose, Robert believed deeply in preparation and perseverance. He saved his money, planned carefully and trusted in the Lord to guide every step of his path.
Gifted with a sharp mind for business and investing, Robert built a strong financial foundation for himself and became the owner of several homes. Through discipline, vision and faith, he created opportunities that reflected his belief that the sky was never the limit, faith was. He walked boldly, confidently and humbly, always seeking God’s direction as he pursued his dreams.
In 1963, Robbie met the love of his life, Madie Wells, at Dunbar High School. They were married on June 28, 1969. Robert served his country with pride and honor as a veteran of the United States Navy, demonstrating his deep dedication and patriotism. Robbie (US Navy) and his brother George (US Air Force) at one point they were on a ship in the Gulf of Tonkin, which is the waters adjacent to Vietnam, during the Vietnam War. One was at sea and one was on land. This situation created worry and anxiety for their family, but thanks be to God, they returned home safely. Robbie’s commitment to public service continued long after his military career. He also worked for Bethlehem Steel in the payroll department and for the Baltimore City Police Department before joining the Baltimore City Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks and retired with distinction as a Lieutenant. Robbie was also a proud member of the Vulcan Blazers and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (B.P.O.E). His leadership was natural, steady and respected by all who served beside him.
Throughout his life, Robert displayed remarkable versatility and talent. He sold insurance, worked in home improvement and excelled in every field he pursued. His work ethic was unmatched and he approached each task with integrity, pride and discipline. Yet beyond all his accomplishments, it was his character, his warmth, humor and generosity that left the greatest impact on the people around him.
Robert loved to laugh and his smile could light up a room. It had a way of making others laugh with him, breaking the tension, lifting spirits and reminding everyone that joy is a gift meant to be shared. Whether you knew him well or met him for the first time, Robbie’s presence made you feel at ease. He was dependable, caring and always willing to lend a helping hand. If someone needed support, guidance, or simply a listening ear, he was there without hesitation.
Above all, Robert’s life was defined by his deep love for family, his steadfast commitment to service, and his unwavering faith in God. His legacy endures through the countless lives he touched, the communities he served, and the example he set for everyone fortunate enough to know him.
