Rebecca Heckstall
March 22, 1927 — March 5, 2017
REBECCA HECKSTALL was born on March 22, 1927 in Roanoke Rapids, NC. She was one of twenty children born to the late Forrest Hawkins Sr. and Roberta Hawkins.
On Sunday March 5, 2017, she departed this earthly life at home surrounded by family and friends.
Rebecca affectionately known as "Beck" received her education through the Halifax County School System. She married the late James Bennett Sr. from their union came two children Evelyn Gay and James Bennett Jr. At an early age, Beck relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. She later joined in holy matrimony to the late Gradie Heckstall.
Beck loved fishing, cooking, playing lottery and running her candy store. Beck was always welcoming and would greet you with a warm smile.
She loved her family and leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Evelyn Gay and James Bennett Jr.; her brothers, Leslie Hawkins and Eddie Hawkins (Virgingia); two sisters, Rowena Bennett and Beatrice Shearin; fifteen grandchildren, forty five great grandchildren(one who proceeded her in death); eight great-great grandchildren; special niece, Rosa Bennett and Avis Hawkins; special friends, Loretta Jordan and Mickey Ray and a host of other relatives and friends.
