Rachel Louise
Davis
December 16, 1924 – March 24, 2026
Rachel Louise Davis,101, was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. She was born on December 16, 1924 in Appomattox, Virginia to the late William McKinley Austin and Mabel Wheeler Austin.
Louise, as everyone called her, attended public school in Appomattox, Virginia and became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church where she received her early Christian Education. While living in Virginia, she was blessed with her two sons Leon and Nat. At an early age, Louise relocated to the Washington-Baltimore area seeking gainful employment.
After living and working in Baltimore, she met and married the late Keith Davis. The blessings of this union were two daughters, Karen and Ophelia; and two sons, Gregory and Bruce. Louise was a dedicated mother and wife who continued working and adding support to her family. She became an active member of Antioch Baptist Church and made sure her children knew God and were raised as Christians.
Louise always sought to do the Lord’s work. After the death of her youngest son, she moved to Hampton, Virginia. In Hampton, she furthered her Christian life at Trinity Baptist Church and served on many committees there. Louise made friends and bonded with people easily because she was energetic, friendly, and outgoing. She will be missed by the many individuals she befriended throughout her lifetime.
Louise was preceded in death by: her husband, Keith Davis; her sons, Leon Ames and Bruce Davis; her parents, William and Mabel Austin; her brothers, Colonel Austin and Samuel Austin; and her sisters, Mary Nelson, Dorothy Pannell, Alice Jones, Helen Walker, and Thelma Hancock.
Louise leaves behind a legacy filled with love and cherished memories. She is survived by her children: John Austin (Patricia) who gifted her with two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Gregory who blessed her with four grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; Karen DeShazo (Andre) who favored her with three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; Ophelia Davis who graced her with five grandchildren and eight great -grandchildren; one grandchild from her late son Leon Ames along with three great-grandchildren. Also cherishing her memories are: three sisters, Patricia Jordan, Francis McIvor, Nancy Hancock (Jesse) ; one brother, Earl Austin (Zenobia) ; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
God bless her memory. She will live forever in our hearts.
