Peggy A. Taylor

The Buchanan family was blessed with their youngest child, Peggy Ann (Buchanan) Taylor, on March 10th, 1941, in Wadesboro, NC, to the late James & Gladys Buchanan.  Peggy departed this life on March 24th, 2024.

Peggy was educated in the Baltimore School system and received her degree from Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Class of 1959. She was active in the skating club and the girls' league and was a majorette!

She loved the Lord and was baptized in her youth. In her Christian life, she attended several churches, the most present being Kingdom Culture Church in Dover, DE. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 91.

Her first job was at the popular “Linda Lynn Clothing Store” in Baltimore, MD. She retired after 30+ years of service at the Social Security Administration as a Disability Benefits Officer. After retiring, she became an active member of the Circle of Retired Sisters in Baltimore.

Peggy Buchanan married the late William Taylor Sr. on November 22, 1961. They were blessed with three children: Wanda (Ronald) Ruffin and Kim (Douglas) Thompson of York, PA, and one son, William E. Taylor, Jr. of Muskegon, MI. They also have 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

The fashionable Peggy Taylor was family-oriented, God-fearing, beautiful, generous, and had the most unselfish heart. Family and friends loved spending time with her. She had a few signature quotes that her immediate family still quotes today: “SAY WHAT YOU MEAN & MEAN WHAT YOU SAY,” “YOU KNOW I WAS A GIRL SCOUT,” “I LOVE YOU MORE,” and “BYE FOR NOW.”

After moving to Dover, DE, Peggy joined Frontline Ministries and served as a Greeter and one of the Sophia Sisters. Peggy was very active; she joined and volunteered at the Modern Maturity Center, became a member of the Red Hat Society, and every year, she worked with the 55+ Expo. An advocate for Voter Rights, Peggy worked at the Political Polls and registered and educated people on the importance of voting. She was very proud of her campaign work to elect President Barack Obama as our first African American President. She also volunteered at The Chamber of Commerce. She loved turtles, all things purple and traveling.

Peggy Taylor is preceded in death by her sister, Delores Taylor, bonus daughters Debra Brice and Diane Taylor, and a bonus grandson, Ronald Ruffin, Jr.

Peggy also leaves to mourn a special friend, Edward Swiggett Sr. of Smyrna, DE; In-laws John and Sheila Williams; Ethel Taylor; Melvin and Rhonda Williams; Debbie Tucker; and Michael Tucker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be truly missed.
