Patricia Yvonne (Matthews) Williams, affectionately known as Pat, was born on August 5, 1948 to the late Julia Dew-Matthews and John Leonard Matthews, Sr. in Baltimore, Maryland.
Patricia was the eldest daughter of nine children. In her youth, Pat was always a helping hand to her mother and father. As the oldest daughter, she acted as a caring role model to her younger siblings. Childhood friends would describe Patricia as outgoing, social and compassionate. She still has friends from her childhood who kept in touch with her regularly.
After graduating from High School, Pat worked at the Social Security Administration. She devoted 48 years to the Social Security Administration before retiring in 2014. Patricia treasured those who she met at her job, even adopting several “work” children.
In August 26, 1967 she married the love of her life, Arthur (Sonny) Williams, Jr. From this union, their lone daughter Monique Lynn Williams was born. Patricia was a reliable, fierce and empowering mother. As a family of three, they would always spend summers together traveling to places like Atlantic City.
Patricia was a dedicated member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #2257 and Faith Builders. She acted as a lecturer and a Eucharistic minister.
Among her hobbies, Pat enjoyed traveling, shopping and cooking. Patricia had a green thumb, always keeping a collection of various plants in her home. She loved to talk on the phone for hours at a time. Spending time with her loved ones was always a priority to Pat. She valued the connections that she made with people from her lifetime. Patricia had a vast memory of people, places and things. She was able to captivate anyone with stories of years prior.
In her later years, Pat added the title of grandmother and later the title of great-grandmother to her roster of accolades. She was known to her two granddaughter, Courtney and Daria, as “G” and to her great grandchildren, Carlie, Chandler and Noah as “GG”. Pat doted on her grandchildren like they were her own.
