Listen to Obituary

Pamela Diane Watkins, the eighth of nine children born on April 10, 1959 to the late Patsy R. Hamlet and Mark Watkins.

Pamela or “Pam” as she was more affectionately known, was a happy child who immediately grew an interest and desire for athletics and sports. Pam was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Forest Park High School in 1978. During her high school years, she was a member of her high school track team and basketball team. After high school, she briefly attended the Job Corps seeking to learn a vocational skill that would allow her to become a self-sufficient and independent adult.

Pam became employed with various security agencies including Abbacus, Watkins and Broadway Services. She was diligent in her profession as a security officer as she worked at various sites throughout the Baltimore metropolitan area. In 1990, Pam was hired by the Johns Hopkins Hospital, initially within housekeeping and later transferred to materials management/ supply services. She was admired by her co-workers and the staff at JHH and became well known for her infectious love and knowledge of professional sports and its athletes. On any given work day, she could be seen or heard challenging her male counterparts with bets on the Super Bowl or NBA championships. An avid 49ers and Spurs fan, Pam knew the technical aspects of these sports games better than most spectators. Her endearing spirit as a sports spectator will be missed by many. On June 22, 1987, Pamela married the love of her life, Nathaniel David Postell .While there were no children from this marriage, they shared the responsibility of helping raise his two daughters, Angela and Dawn, from a previous marriage. Life as David’s wife was genuine and her role as a step-mother, was something Pam took seriously even after losing her husband.

Pam was a loving and caring person. She was motherly and a friend, not only to her family, but to anyone she met. She opened up her home to both family and friends. When someone was in need for something, no matter what, if she could provide it, she did (food, shelter, finances and much more). She had a smile and a laugh to go along with her endearing personality.

On Tuesday, June 19, 2018, Pamela’s earthly address changed; she received her wings and went to her new heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Postell, her brothers, Clyde Johnson and Vernon Hamlet and her aunt, Florence Kidd.

Pam leaves to cherish her memory two step-daughters: Dawn Postell (Ricardo) and Angie Postell, six step-grandchildren; one brother, Earl Hamlet, (Lovie) of Virginia Beach, VA , five sisters, Earleen Dixon of Virginia Beach, VA, Edwina McCoy, Joann Hamlet, Patricia Able and Rosa Hamlet, all of Baltimore, MD , eight nephews: Damon, Kevin, Earl Jr., Joe, Lamont, Melvin, Andre, two nieces: Fernika and Jazmin, an endearing cousin, Kim Kidd, a special companion, Keith Alexander, the JHH family, three long time neighbors Mike, Joyce and Doug and a host of friends and relatives.
