Norma Rebecca Dixon was born in Washington, D.C., the beloved first child of Diane Barney and Orlando Grier.
She attended Baltimore City Public Schools and went on to dedicate many years to the hospitality industry, sharing her gift as a talented cook.
Norma was a god-fearing woman with a heart of pure gold. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cooking delicious meals, watching her favorite movies, and spending hours on the phone laughing and catching up with family and friends. Norma had a vibrant spirit and a warm, infectious laugh.
She was known for speaking her truth with courage and love, and for caring deeply for everyone around her. To know Norma was to know genuine kindness, humor, and strength.
Norma was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Dixon Jr., and her eldest son, Stevie Thompson Jr.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Timothy Hunt Jr., Chaddie Brown, Eboney Lucas, and Ikeysha Harris, Marvin Harris; her son- in-law Marcus Brown Jr.; and her seven cherished grandchildren, Steve Thompson II, Mircale Thompson, Jayden Todd, Londyn Nelson, Janiyah Watts, Makayla Hunt, Kasey Smith, and Sincere Brown. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Karter Thompson and Skylar Thompson.
Norma’s memory will live on through her parents, Diane Barney and Orlando Grier, and her siblings: Yolanda Grier, Kim Smith, Earl Lucas, Sean Barney, Jermaine Barney, Shaun Grier, and Kevin Barney. She was preceded in death by her sister, Adrienne Grier.
Norma will forever be remembered for her generous heart, her bold spirit, and her unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will carry her light in their hearts always.
