NOLAN C. CORNISH, was born October 10, 1933 to Naomi Tilghman & Kenneth Traves in Dorchester County, Taylors Island Md. Nolan was one of 15 children. He received his education from FD St. Clair High School in Cambridge Md.
He joined the Army in 1954. He was a paratrooper and often told stories of jumping out of planes. Nolan was proud of his time in he Army. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he came to Baltimore and made it his home. Nolan worked for the Railroad & Bethlehem Steel and retired from Bethlehem Steel after 38 years. He hardly ever missed a day of work. In 1959 he met and fell in love with Shirley Mae Anderson. They were married May 9, 1960. Nolan and Shirley raised two daughters Claudette and Cynthia. Nolan took pride in his family and was a true family man. If he wasn't at home, he was more than likely at uncle Albert's house.
Nolan was not a man to celebrate anything. He did not celebrate birthdays, graduations, holidays, or anniversaries. Nolan never even attended weddings or funerals. However, everyone he loved knew it because he showed it in many ways. Nolan was always there for his family. He loved to tell stories and crude jokes, watch sports and could sing very well. Nolan also had a huge soft spot for children.
Nolan is survived by his daughters, Claudette & Cynthia; His grandchildren, Arnell (Elaine), Ali (Deborah), Tavon & Lakiesha; his siblings, Thedore, Arvell, Roy, Irvin Monroe and Regina; 12 great-grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
