Nellie H.. Person

NELLIE M. (HAWKINS) PERSON, was born on December 9, 1935, in Brunswick County, Virginia from the union of Joseph and Rivers Macklin Hawkins.

Affectionately known as Nell, she attended schools in the New York City School System and graduated from Flushing High School.

Always beautiful in appearance, she was also a beautiful spirit. Having a great smile and being adventurous, she ventured into the modeling world for a short time. Eventually, she relocated to Washington, DC where she found employment with the United States government.

As life would have it, she met and married her soulmate, Leroy on June 27, 1959. Working together, Person Concrete was created.

Nell was more than just a domestic engineer, she was the bookkeeper, accountant, payroll administrator and Leroy's sounding board. At the same time, never neglecting her duties as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She still found time to enjoy playing her piano and spending time with her family and friends.

During the past two years, Nell faced health challenges that kept her daughter close by her side. On August 29, 2019, Nell transitioned into eternal life at the age of 83.

Her parents Joseph and Rivers Hawkins and her sister Vernell Porter, preceded Nell in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 60 years, Leroy Person, one daughter, Sheryl Levi, two sons, Gary Person (Victoria) and Brian Person (Demica), six grandchildren, Mitchell "Javon" Levi, Chanel Person, Tayler Person, Ebonee Jenkins, Jabari Person and Dia'ja (Shay) Davis, one great-grandson, Mitchell Javon, Jr., (MJ), two sisters, Sheila Lancaster (James) and Deborah Hawkins, one brother, Joseph Hawkins (Rita), three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
