Ned Wilkerson

Ned Wilkerson was born on March 16, 1927 in Richmond Virginia to the late Lina Wilkerson. He was the youngest of seven children. He peacefully entered into eternal life on Friday, October 23, 2020 while at home with his daughter.

He received his primary education while attending the public schools of Granville County North Carolina.He was industrious and eager to succeed so he completed additional educational pursuits later in life. He enlisted in the United States Army at an early age and received an honorable discharge for his services. He later was employed by the Baltimore City Housing Authority as a supervisor of the printing department where he retired on March 31, 1989.

On January 17, 1958 Ned married the love of his life the Late Velma Nancy Campbell and this loving and caring union lasted for over 61 years. from this union one son James and one daughter Linda was born. There were many nieces and nephews that he had a hand in raising and he loved them as he loved his children. There were also numerous neighborhood children that looked up to him as well. He was such a loving person.

At an early age he excepted Christ as his personal savior at the 1st Baptist Church of Virginia. He later joined Zion Baptist Church in Baltimore Maryland. There he faithfully served In the Safe Haven, Transportation, and Pantry ministries. He enjoyed worshiping at Zion Baptist Church until his health declined.

Ned was known for his teasing and joking, he had nicknames for everyone. He also loved traveling and spending time with family. He spent a lot of his free time In Thornburg Virginia where he purchased a vacation home. He loved to invite family and friends to join him so they could get away and enjoy themselves. Family was always important to him he was the patriarch of his family and he will be truly missed.

After living a full and rewarding life he leaves to cherish his memory: His son, James Wilkerson; daughter, Linda Wilkerson; daughter in-law Glindia Wilkerson; Six grandchildren: Keiona Pyles, Jamal Wilkerson, Brea Evans, Georgette Bennett, Elijah Wilkerson, and Erik Walker. Seven great-grand: Aniyah Morris, Kori Dangerfeild, Gia Teel, Karsyn Wilson, Logan Teel, Jeriah Bennett and Jada Bennett; One sister in-law; Ella Mae Patterson. One brother in-law; Herman Campbell. Three nieces that he thought of as daughters; Ernestine Eaton, Esther Vaughn and Mary (Beatty) Jackson. Nephew that was dear to his heart, Zelotis Wilkerson; devoted friend; Elizabeth Copeland and a host of nieces nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by Wife: Velma Nancy Wilkerson and Daughter: Shirley Ann Wilkerson.
