On May 17, 1959, God gifted us with Nancy Lavern Warren, passionately known as “Lavern”, she departed this life on February 9, 2025, at the age of 65. She was born to loving parents of the late Roosevelt and Mary Warren in Suffolk, Virginia. Lavern the baby and the only girl lived in Virginia with her parents and four brothers, William (deceased), Laurence, Roosevelt, and Bernard until the age of two when her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland.
Lavern attended Baltimore City Schools and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School. After graduating from high school, she enlisted into the Army to serve her country. She was stationed at Fort Dix in New Jersey. While in the Army, she was awarded with two ribbons for her service in the army and overseas, she also was recognized for her outstanding work as a Marksman with the M-16 Rifle. Lavern served her country with the United States Army for two years before she was Honorably discharged.
Once Lavern came home from the Army, she worked in the cafeteria for Baltimore City Public Schools as everyone’s favorite lunch lady. Lavern worked for the School System for 16 wonderful years until her health declined.
Lavern was a member of Huber Memorial Church since the church was located on The Alameda under the leadership of Pastor P.M. Smith. She rejoined and rededicated her life back to Huber in 2009. In 2024, she decided to join her youngest son Sean’s church Christian Faith Holiness Church under the leadership of Bishop Edward Hammett and Co Pastor Addie Hammett. Lavern was a member of many ministries at Huber including the Senior Usher Board, leader for the Junior Usher Board, and the Girl Scouts. One of Lavern’s many hobbies were sewing. She loved making outfits for her children and made her two daughter’s Girls Scouts uniforms. Besides sewing, Lavern loved fishing, gardening, cooking, and eating crabs with her family.
Many remember Lavern from her beautiful smile and her outgoing personality. By her being the youngest and only girl, she was very outspoken and determined to not let anything get in her way. Her four loving brothers not only looked out for her but also spoiled her. Lavern was a very loving and caring person and would do anything for others.
Lavern leaves behind to cherish her memory her four children: Anthony (Tony) Travers, Stacey Berry, Tracey Travers, and Sean Travers; one son-in-law, Micheal and one daughter-in-law; Keairah; twelve grandchildren she adored, Malachi (deceased) London, Anyiah, Kaylee F., Kaylee T., Jamari, Skyy, Gavin, Kelson, Karris, Kenzlee, and, Charlee; three brothers, Laurence, Roosevelt (Letha), and, Bernard, her favorite cousins, Charlene and Lynda; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
