MILTON WESLEY AMES JR. was born on March 27, 1958, to the late Yvonne Ray Guarte and Milton Wesley Ames Sr. Milton, affectionately known as "Boggie", transitioned from this life on Friday, September 26, 2025.
Boggie received his education in the Baltimore City Public Schools. He later received his diploma and joined the United States Army in 1980. His love for music was amplified while attending Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. He was so inspired that he joined the renowned Dunbar High School Choir. The choir performed in musical plays and concerts all around the city, but the peak, for him, was when they performed in Rome, Italy.
Out of the Somerset Housing Projects came five guys who sang anywhere and everywhere. At the Jack in the Box restaurant, they were known as "The Box Boys." In 1981, The Box Boys became Regency, whose original members included: Dwayne (Chubby) and Wayne McNeil, Milton Ames, Sammie Davis, and Tyrone Wing. Throughout the years, other members included Charles (Ace) Brunson, Duane Early, Anthony (Doo Drop) Griffen and Isaiah Simmons Jr. Through it all, Regency never lost its groove.
In 1983, Regency released their first radio commercial and their popularity grew. They toured over 300 colleges and universities in a year and won many National Association of Campus Awards (NACA). They were nominated 9 times as Entertainers of the Year. When The Regency was not touring, they could often be found performing in the amphitheater at the Baltimore Inner Harbor. Regency has opened and performed with many top entertainers such as Sinbad, The Temptations, Manhattan Transfers, Patti LaBelle, Robert Townsend, The Four Tops, the late Dizzy Gillespy, Spyro Gyra, Ramsey Lewis, and Bo Diddy, Just to name a few. Singing was one of the joys of Milton's life. After his singing career ended, he was employed at McDonald's and later joined the GBMC Environmental Services Department until he retired in February 2025.
Milton was a devout Israelite and would talk to anyone who would listen for hours about his beliefs. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Sauda Olukayode, Kenyatta Guarte, Yvonne Lovelace and daughter Britney DeSheers. He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters Shawniqua Ames-Hood (Sean), and Cache' Ames; two grandsons, Carter Ames and Zaire Hood; four sisters, Vondessa Williams, Valarie Ames, Irene Wright (Christopher) and Myra Lake; two brothers, Harold Costa Ames and Ronald Ames; three aunts, Georgia Lasane, Rosita Cassell and Janice Brooks and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
