Michael departed this world in the comfort of his daughter April’s home early on Tuesday morning, February the 22nd. He attended schools in Baltimore City, Maryland, where he obtained the skills in home improvements.
Mike had three brothers to preceded him in death, Christopher Bentley, Anthony Reddick and Edward Bentley.
Michael, the son of Edward and Virginia Bentley, is survived by his daughter April Gatumbi, three grandchildren Joseph, Nikita and Justus Garrett. Two brothers and one sister (in-law) James Reddick, Curtis and Wanda Bentley. Three nieces Joanna and Cursha Bentley and Quinnair Reddick. Mike is well loved and will be missed by many including his friend Caprice Wright.
Michael’s talents were unlimited. He earned the nickname “Bike Mike,” because he was very skilled in building the most distinctive bikes from nothing. He was always seen riding a bike throughout the city. Mike also renovated homes, was a skilled painter and wall designer. Mike loved to eat, he was the only one of Ms. Jenny’s six sons who could eat a pot of any beans and a loaf of bread, and not gain any weight. Yes, Mike loved bread!
Mike was known for being stubborn, committed to completion of any project he starts, and witty in his own way. To know him, is to love him. He had that unfamiliar familiar type of charisma that sticks with you.
Michael discovered a new interest when he became employed with Betts Funeral Home, still working on homes and the occasional bike. Some years later, Mike joined the team with Calvin Scruggs Funeral Home until God called him home. Even after finding out how ill he was, our devoted Mike stated he wanted to go to work.
