Melvin A. Veney

MELVIN ANTONIO VENEY, was born on June 15, 1967 to the late Elizabeth Moore Veney and Eugene "Chief" Barnes, he departed his life June 18, 2023.

Melvin affectionately known as Mel-Cola, held many titles in his life but his favorite role was being a father. He loved nothing more than spending time with his children.

Mel-Cola the storyteller was known all across the globe. He was the originator of, "Put down the guns and pick up the Bible". While Mel-Cola left us far too soon the impact he had on our community was unmatched and will be felt for generations to come.

Melvin received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System and held various jobs but the one he was most passionate about was working as an Addition Counselor Supervisor at EDBI.

Melvin enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing and making people laugh and smile. Melvin was the epitome of unique and unforgettable. Just one of a kind. Melvin had an infectious smile that lit up the room, his voice was one you could never duplicate and was always confident. Melvin loved to be the life of the party and by party, I mean wherever he was and no matter what the temperature of the room he was going to bring joy and make you feel like you were at a party. Melvin made you feel like you were his only friend. He was a friend to the friendless and he loved all. Melvin absolutely loved life.

Melvin leaves to mourn: children, Troy, Marcus, Ashley, Diamond, Kelly and Bryant; grandchildren, Kameira, Harlyn, Troi, Da'Jor, Kaylei, Skyler, Dash, Devyn, Nola and one blessing on the way; siblings, Ricardo (Tyrell), Irvin, LeRoy, (Boodie), Timothy E., Timothy B., Lavern, Picola, Douglas, Elizabeth (Lissie), Marie, Jovelle, his life partner;,Yvonne Miles; special brothers, Terrence, Kevin and nephew Terrence (TT) and a host of nieces and nephews; Melvin was blessed to have a great friendship with his children's mother, Katherine Redmond, Towanda Carter and Sharon Carter.
