On December 27, 1931 Melvin Russell Jones or who is affectionately known as "House" was born here in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were the late Robert Jones and the late Elmer King. House met and married the late Ethel Johnson-Jones and from that union Kevin Jones was born. His other children who honor his legacy are: Vernon, Melvin, Jr., Bernard, Nia (deceased) and Angela. House went from labor to reward on December 11, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
House was educated and graduated from Dunbar Senior High School. He was employed and retired from The Baltimore Gas & Electric Company. Of course, he couldn't stay retired! He worked on the waterfront as a Long Shoreman, where he once again retired. His final destination was the Federal Street Florist where he worked part time for his good friend, Hayton. The family jokingly said he served as the answering service!
The Word tells us if we would confess and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we shall be saved and House did accept Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He didn't attend church, but he did look forward to watching Pastor P.M. Smith every Sunday on television. Every night before going to bed, House made sure he knelt on his knees to give thanks for all that God has done for him and his family.
House was a lover of hats and he wore them well. He loved to listen to music. Jazz was his favorite form of music, and he would pat his feet to the beat. Everyone who came in contact with House knew that he had a good spirit ; and if you needed help, he would be there to help if he could!
Along House's journey of life, he met and fell in love with Mildred Nelson where they remained together until his death. He also had a special place in his heart for his daughter Angela "Dink" ! Just about everyday at around 6:00pm, she would come and take him somewhere or visit with him! Yes, she was daddy's girl!
There were four brothers who preceded House in death: Eugene, Leon, Robert and Bernard. House leaves to cherish his memories and others to serve as his legacy: Devoted friend, Mildred Nelson; daughter, Angela Jones Ellis (Derrick); sons, Kevin (Linda), Melvin, Jr., Bernard and Vernon (Yvette); ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends; and his special and devoted friends, Mr. John Harvey, Ms. Juanita, Ms. Mae and Ms. Becky.
