Mary Verzell Williamson

Mary Verzell Jeffers Williamson was born on February 23, 1929 to the late Cornwallis Jeffers and Mary Abbott in Roxboro, North Carolina.   She was the fourth child of six children born to this union.

The Jeffers family moved to Baltimore in the early 1940’s .   At the age of twelve Verzell joined the Faith Baptist Church, confessed Christ as her Savior and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. Simon Williamson.  She joined the Ladies Aid ministry and was a dutiful member in this ministry.

She worked in the dietary department at St. Joseph Hospital for many years.  She was the historian of the family.   She could recall dates and events that happened years before.

In 1972 she joined in holy matrimony to Robert Williamson who preceded her in death in August 1996.

She was a quiet, loving person but she liked being around family and friends.   She listened to gospel music on the radio.  Her favorite song was “Precious Lord Take My Hand”.

She resided at Cromwell Center for four years.  At times she received aggressive treatments.  In the last month she stated she was ready to go home to be with the Lord.  She states she was weary and tired.  God heard her cry and soon after her desire to leave this world was granted.   She passed away very quiet and peacefully.

Verzell is preceded in death by four siblings, Thomas Jeffers (Ellen), Penolia Edwards (Matt), Anna Parker (Harold), Clyce Jeffers (Merle) and her surviving sister, Laura M. Richards, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
