Mary E.
Ford Ellison
Feb 27, 1943 — May 15, 2026
DEACONESS MARY ELIZABETH FORD ELLISON, was born on February 27, 1943, in Newport News, Virginia, to the late W.C. Stephens and Nezzie B. Watkins Stephens. From an early age, Mary was grounded in her faith, accepting Christ as her Savior at just eight years old. Her mother faithfully nurtured that foundation by taking Mary and her sister Catherine to church every Sunday, instilling values that would guide her throughout her life. Following the passing of her beloved mother, Mary and her sister Catherine were cared for by their grandmother after their father entrusted them to her care during their young years.
As a young woman living in Athens, Georgia, Mary met and married the late Jimmie Ford Sr. Together they built a loving family and were blessed with four sons; Jimmie Ford Jr., Anthony L. Ford Sr., Melvin Ford Sr.,(preceded in death) and Gregory Ford Sr.
In pursuit of new opportunities, the Ford family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. There, Mary joined New Second Baptist Church, where she joyfully shared her love of worship as a member of the choir. Mary continued her education while balancing the responsibilities of marriage and motherhood. She earned her Nursing Certificate from the Community College of Baltimore, demonstrating her determination and commitment to serving others. She also dedicated her time to nurturing young minds as a Teacher's Aide with the Baltimore City Public School System.
Mary later found her church home at St. John Christian Community Church, where she faithfully planted deep spiritual roots and became a cherished and active member of the congregation. Her service to God and her church family was evident in all she did.
While faithfully serving at St. John Christian Community Church, Mary was blessed to find love again when she met and married Harry Lee Ellison Sr. in 1998.Their union was built on faith, companionship and a deep appreciation for family.
Mary was known for her joyful spirit, vibrant personality and unwavering love for those closest to her. A proud and devoted mother, she cherished her four sons, grandchildren, sister Catherine and the entire family circle that meant so much to her.
Affectionately nicknamed "Black Beauty" by her Uncle Robert, Mary took pride in her appearance and carried herself with elegance and confidence. Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, especially with her son Anthony and granddaughter Kristen.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life her devoted sons, Jimmie Ford II, Anthony L. Ford Sr., and Gregory Ford Sr.; her beloved sister, Catherine Stephens; her cherished stepchildren; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love, wisdom and presence. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry Lee Ellison Sr.; her son, Melvin Ford Sr.; her parents, W.C. Stephens and Nezzie B. Watkins Stephens; and other loved ones who welcomed her into eternal rest.
