Mary R. Cauthorne

MARY R. CAUTHORNE was born on June 8, 1953 in  Baltimore, Maryland.  Daughter of the late Lloyd and Hattie Cauthorne and bonus parents Franklin and Catherine Palm. She departed this life after a brief illness on June 19, 2025.

Mary was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1972. After graduation she worked at various jobs in the Baltimore area to include Montgomery Wards and the Sullivan Shoe Company. In later years she was employed at Johns Hopkins Hospital until she retired in 2019. While at Johns Hopkins Hospital she was a dedicated worker who loved her job and met many friends.

Desmond who affectionately called her “Plum”, was her greatest joy whom she loved dearly. She understood that every good and perfect gift comes from above.

Mary enjoyed playing cards, jigsaw puzzles, computer games and football. Her favorite team was the Baltimore Ravens. She also loved the color green.

Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd Cauthorne Jr. and Michael Cauthorne;  sister, Roberta Edwards.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Desmond Scruggs Sr. (Tiffany); three brothers, Edward Cauthorne (Rosa), Charles Cauthorne, and Mark Shepperson; two sisters, Diana Cauthorne and Renee Palm; four grandchildren, Desmond Scruggs Jr., Destiny Scruggs, Desire Scruggs and Michael Turner; three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Scruggs, Jace Scruggs, and Maci Turner; and a host of other relatives and friends.
