Listen to Obituary

Martha Elizabeth Seabrooks, daughter of George and Annie Seabrooks was born in Fairfield County South Carolina on January 9, 1942.  She was called home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2023.

Martha who was affectionately known as “Boo” and “The Dude” (only by her younger brother Lloyd) moved to Baltimore at an early age.

Martha was baptized at Mt Pleasant at an early age and served as a faithful member until she was unable to physically attend.  She served as a bible study teacher, was a member of the Silver Saints, Red Hatters and taught Master Life Classes.

Martha began her education at the Maryland School of the Blind in Overlea.  Upon graduation Martha went on to obtain a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Morgan State College (now University) and followed on to complete her Masters Degree in Social Work from University of Maryland in one year.  While working for the Social Security Administration from which she retired after 42 years when traveling became tiresome for her.

During her career Martha served on the Board of Directors for Blind Industries, MTA Mobility Services and Guide Dogs for the Blind.  She volunteered for several organizations to include Roberta’s House, Mt Pleasant Grief Ministries, and several others providing grief counseling to those in need.  One of her fondest achievements, even though she didn’t share with many in her unassuming way, was advocating in Congress for the American for Disabilities Act.

Martha leaves her loving son Mark Seabrooks and daughter-in-law Antoinette Seabrooks, brothers; Lloyd Phillips (deceased) and Wille “Reece” Phillips.  Grandchildren; Jeremiah “Jay” Scott, Jordan Seabrooks and Jayden Seabrooks (from Mark’s previous marriage to Jaquelyn Seabrooks).  Nephews; Sean Phillips and Reece Phillips; Niece Nimaya Phillips; Great Nephews; Sean Phillips, Shane Phillips and Shamar Phillips as well as her devoted caregiver, Carolyn Irvin who went above and beyond to care for her when she needed around the clock care, beloved sister in law Cynthia Phillips and a host of family and friends to cherish her life and contributions.
