Margie Maria Lewis' life was filled with love, warmth, and generosity. Born on September 21,1941, in Madison County, Virginia, to the late Laura Mills Carter and Benny Lee Carter.
Margie completed her education in her home state before embarking on a new chapter.
She met and fell deeply in love with William James Lewis, whom she later married. Together, they relocated to the District of Columbia and eventually settled in Baltimore, Maryland, where they built a loving family.
Known to everyone as Margie or Sue, her presence was like a beacon, with her infectious smile and laughter that could fill any room. She was a storyteller at heart, sharing tales from her past, and found joy in cooking for her family, watching her favorite TV shows and listening to Marvin Gaye. Her favorite foods were fried chicken and chocolate ice-cream.
The Fashionista that she was, loved shopping, oversized shades, Lipstick and Designer Purses (pocketbook as she called it). Everyday no matter where she was going, she was sure to greet you with a fashion statement. Her favorite movie was the Five Heartbeats. She could watch that movie everyday and never get tired. She enjoyed spending time with her family and looked forward to family gatherings where she would just watch, smile and talk mess to the younger children where she would tease them about no longer being the baby.
Margie’s compassion knew no bounds; she had a heart of gold and was always eager to help those in need. To know Margie was truly to love her, as she left an unforgettable mark on everyone she met.
Margie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Laura Mills and Benny Lee Carter; her husband, William James Lewis; children, Theresa and David Lewis; siblings, Geneva Lewis, Donna-Bell Carter, Jimmy Carter, Robert Carter, Clarence Carter and Mary Alice Washington.
Margie leaves behind a loving family to cherish her memory, including sisters Sheila and Brenda Carter; children, Penny, Hamilton, Brenda, George, Margaret Geneva, Dennis and Denise Lewis; three son in laws; Ronald Carol, Tony Graham and William Harding; grandchildren, Tanya, Starr, Anglecia, Antione, Lakia, Andre, Staneka, Charday, Daniel, Clarence, Devone, Cortney, Amanda, Ashley, Ryan, James, Jei, Nada, Jeremy, and Pierre; thirty great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; along with a host of beloved family members and friends.
Margie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
