Listen to Obituary

MARGARET A. CROWELL, was born on December 19, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the oldest child born to the late Edward and Margaret O'Neal.

"Marg", affectionately called by her family and friends, received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System, graduating from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School. She created lasting bonds and friendships, including meeting her childhood sweetheart, Claude Crowell, Jr. Marg and Claude were united in Holy Matrimony and remained married for 47 years until his passing in 1999. From this union they were blessed with seven children. Clinton, Gregory and Joyce proceeded her death. She will live on through Garry, Pamela, Michael and Betty.

Marg enjoyed working and had a tremendous work ethic, working at an early age as the family babysitter. She gained employment as a factory line worker at Maryland Clothing Manufacturing, Inc., and she retired from Union Memorial Hospital in 2003.

Marg accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the fellowship of the Israel Baptist Church of Baltimore City in 1963 under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Edmond D. Meade, Sr. She attended Sunday Worship Services with her family until her health began to decline.

Marg believed in family. After her youngest sister, Betty, passed away suddenly in 1975, Marg stepped up and helped her mother, Margaret O' Neal, raise her sister's children, Joanie, JoAnne, and Derrick O'Neal as her own.

Marg also made sure to be present in her grandchildren's lives. She ensured her oldest granddaughter, Angela Black, was there at the home on E. Hoffman Street as much as possible. Lil' Garry, Ron, Clinton, Jr., Ashley, Kiyona and Monte knew she was just a phone call away! Will, Brain and Sean grew up in the house with her as a second mother to them. She made sure Tyler and Morgan knew she had a warm spot in her heart for them as well.

Marg was very active in her community, holding the title of President of The Community Association for more than ten years. She was an active supporter and friend of Mary Pat Clark, who went home to Glory on the same day as Marg. She was an outstanding cook, and you could find her in the kitchen on Hoffman Street most Sunday mornings cooking Sunday dinner and singing along with the gospel greats on Heaven 600 radio. Marg promised her children and grandchildren that they would know their way around the kitchen as well. Her family will miss her Sunday meals.

On Sunday, November 10, 20224, our beloved Margaret Ann Crowell, surrounded by her loved ones, went from labor to reward, moving from her earthly residence to her permanent home with the Lord. Her sister, Joan Dyer Nelson, who would often travel with Marg (until her health began to fail), was by her side until the end. She had a lasting bond with her other siblings until the end. Edward proceeded her in death. Margaret leaves behind her ability to uplift those around her, a legacy of love, warmth and unwavering faith that will continue to inspire and comfort her family and friends.

Among those who shared her life and are left to cherish her memories are her oldest son and the joy of her life, Garry, Sr. (Pat), her son Michael (Jewel) and daughters, Pamela and Betty Crowell. Her loving sister, Joan D. Nelson (Nelson); one sister-in-law, Eula O'Neal. A devoted goddaughter, Renee; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and lifelong friends.
