Mae A.
Hurtt
May 1, 1939 – March 1, 2026
MAE ANNA HURTT was born on May 1, 1939 in Baltimore City, Maryland to the late Earle A. Bollin, Sr., and Fannie Mac (Ward) Bollin.
Mae attended Saint Frances Academy, an independent Catholic Middle and High School in Baltimore, Maryland. She worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital of Baltimore, Maryland for 35 years as a dietician and later became involved in creating nutrition programs during the onset of HIV / AIDS for patients with the disease. She worked with the NICU department helping to feed infants. She was loved and adored by many during her years at Johns Hopkins, often calling them her children, sisters and brothers.
During her lifetime, she was married to William (Kenny) Hurtt where they resided in the Northwood Community and raised three children together. Mae enjoyed and loved her surrounding neighbors for many years, building bonds and friendships for decades.
Although Mae accepted Christ at a young age, it wasn't until she started Israel Baptist Church of Baltimore City regularly and decided to rededicate her life to Christ and get baptized under the leadership of Pastor H. Walden Wilson, II. She attended worship services regularly and Wednesday night Bible Study. You often saw her preparing meals at the church as part of the Culinary Ministry. She joined the mission to help local members of the community at the Mattie B. Uzzle Outreach Center, of which the building and facility was named after her aunt. She also continued to serve in the community by increasing education and understanding of the HIV / AIDs epidemic. In 2007, she relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina and attended Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Harrisburg, North Carolina. She became a member and continued spreading love in the body of Christ through attending worship services regularly, Senior Ministry events, and her love for Sunday School with the Ladies Ministry.
Many people called her Nannie or Na-Na. She was a mother figure and "Diva" to everyone she met. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, talking on that phone (laughing), good food, attending church, listening to gospel music, att5ending gospel plays and spending time with her family and friends. Over the years, she brightened the lives of so many people with those "eyes" along with her smile. Over the last few years, she returned to Baltimore and resided at Keswick Multi-Care Center until she gained her wings on Sunday, March 1, 2026, as she was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Mae was a very devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend, but most importantly, she was a Daughter of the King. She was loved by all who knew her and we will miss her dearly.
She leaves to cherish her memories; three daughters, Melvina, Teresa and Wanda; two sisters, Dorothy and Loretta; two grandsons, Norman and JaQuan; three great-grandchildren, Antonio, DeShawn, Nariyah; six great-great- grandchildren, Alaina, Antonio-II, A'Dana, A'Vana, Truu, Sarai; over 26 nieces and nephews, along with an abundance of family and friends. Mae now joins her parents and her baby brother, "Butch", in eternal peace.
