On Sunday, June 25, 2023, Mrs Lycina Brothers transitioned from this earthly life to her heavenly home.

Lycina was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. on May 26, 1932. She moved to Sumter, South Carolina at a young age to stay with family until she made it to Baltimore, MD to be with her parents, the late Theola (China) Bouldin & Prince Toney. While in Baltimore she attended Baltimore City Public Schools and ended her educational journey at Fredrick Douglass High School.

Later in life, she met and married, Meredith L. Brothers, a member of The Cardinals, one of the "Bird" groups of Baltimore. From this union three children were born, Meredith, Merilyn and Muriel and a bonus son Kenneth M. Waters she held several jobs throughout Baltimore but ultimately became tenured at Friends School of Baltimore from March 3, 1969 until she tired May 31, 1994.

She was a proud member of Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Robert M. Williams and eventually transitioned her membership to Ark Church under the leadership  of Bishop J. L. Carter. She loved Ark and was a proud member of the Divine Voice of Praise, The Celebration Choir and the Silver and Gold Ministry.

She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grand children and would boast about them and their accomplishments in church, in public and to anyone who would listen. She was an excellent cook. Her favorites were crab cakes and Maryland Crab Soup. Some of her favorite times and memories were hosting her friends and family in her home. Lycina was an avid lover of music and enjoyed everything from country to gospel. Prince was even one of her favorites and she would sing and pat her feet to Purple Rain.
