Listen to Obituary

Luwana “Lou” Streat- Chamberalin was born on February 9, 1933 to Tom and Fannie Johnson in Baltimore, Maryland was called home to rest on Friday, July 5th, 2019 at 7:47 p.m. after a long illness. Loving known as “Killer, Mama Lou, and Grandma Lou” she received her education from the Baltimore City School System and was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church.

She was the youngest of ten children all of whom proceeded her in death (George, Laura Frances, Elizabeth, Odell, Geneva, twins, Lloyd and Leonard, Bernice, and Marie). As a lifetime resident of the Oliver area and an active volunteer in the community she served as a mother to many. Especially known for the fish and cornbread she made every Friday; Lou always maintained an open door and a hot dinner plate for anyone that dropped by her home.

In the earlier years of her life, Lou worked at the Biddle Theatre, Apollo Theater, and John Hopkins Hospital. Later, she worked tirelessly with the Mayor’s Office, chaperoned community meetings, made uniforms for the Oliver Cheerleaders, worked as a Summer Youth Coordinator, and helped neighbors in need. Many people still fondly remember the summer block parties she threw for the neighborhood and the countless trips she gave for kids to Kings Dominion, Hershey Park and Six Flags every year.

Lou married Roy Streat Sr. and out of that union Roy Jr., Greg, Wayne, and Barbara were born. Later she had three additional children with James Wilson; Lynita, Johnny, and Leonard a.k.a “Pepe.” She leaves to cherish her memory: 12 grandchildren (Antionette, Little Greg, Tracie, Tammy, Sharron, Nikia, Jenise, Channell, Little Wayne, James, Ashley, and Sade), 20 great grandchildren, and 15 great- great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
