Lula P. Waddell, daughter of the late Fortune and Essie Cooper was born on April 7, 1932 in Sumter, S.C. She departed this life on September 21, 2015 at age 83 following a lengthy illness.

She received her education at the Goodwill High School in Mayesville, S.C. and briefly attended Morris-Brown College. Lula was married to Herbert N. Waddell who preceded her in death. From their union two children were born; Ronald(deceased) and Diane. Lula worked for Baltimore city Public Schools then she moved on to the Murray Corporation retiring from there in 1994. As a member of Knox she served in various ways-Deacon, Sunday School teacher, after school program and soup kitchen coordinator. Lula had a passion for her family, gardening and baking. For years she baked her much loved pound cakes for friends and family. She especially loved the children. She was lovingly called 'Nana' by her children and grandchildren and 'Sarah' by relatives and friends.

She leaves daughter Diane Penn and her husband, Rudolph of Hanover, MD. Also Colin Cooper, Phd. of Washington, DC. regarded as a daughter;
grandchildren, Rosalyn McDuffie(Carnest), and Jocelyn Covington(Donald) of Baltimore, MD. Bryant Penn(Yvonne) of Ashburn, VA., Jason Penn(Alicia) of Hanover, MD. Donavan Rouse of Washington, DC.; great-grandchildren, Andre, Tychelle, JaHanne, Taylor, Donald, Carnest, Dylan, Aaliyah, Kobe and Sophie; daughter-in-law Teresa Waddell;sisters, Amonese Moses of Baltimore, MD., Lyda Cooper of Glen Burnie, MD., Maureen Lesane, Helen Gibson(Leroy), Lena Henry of Washington, DC., Lorine Wilson(James) of Capitol Heights , MD., brother, Curtis Cooper of Washington, DC.; sister-in-law, Ann Cooper and Eunice Cooper of Baltimore, MD.; Frances cooper of Sumter, SC.; a godson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
