LOU ELLEN BROWN, Patsy was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 7, 1943 to Audrey Brown and Sanford Brown. God called her home on November 28, 2016.
Lou Ellen was raised by her maternal aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Edward Green, along with their six children. She and her younger sister Janice grew up in this large but happy family. Accepting Christ at an early age, she joined Faith Baptist Church as a young teenager. She sang on the youth choir and later on the adult choir. Lou Ellen received her education from Baltimore City Public Schools, graduating from Dunbar High School in 1962. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Special Education in 1970 and her Masters in Education in 1973, both from Coppin State College.
Lou Ellen was always a very independent person. After a summer visit to the beautiful St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands she decided she wanted to live there. She moved to St. Thomas in 1973 where she lived the rest of her life. But Lou Ellen returned home to Baltimore every summer to spend time with family. She always found time to do a lot of shopping while in Baltimore. The main focus in her shopping was to obtain numerous school supplies for students in the Virgin Islands. Dedicating her life to education, she was a special education teacher and tutor for many years.
Lou Ellen was active in many different organizations. She joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1970 and was a devoted lifelong member. She was one of seventeen Charter Members who founded the St. Thomas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta in 1988. She was also a member of the Gypsy Carnival Troupe, annually participating in St. Thomas world renowned Carnival, a month-long celebration of Calypso music, food and fun. She looked forward each year to performing in the Carnival parade. She was also very active with Special Olympics and a devoted member of the Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral Church in St. Thomas.
Lou Ellen leaves to cherish her memory: one niece, Tanielle Kia Bookman; five great nieces and nephews, Jakai, Jakaela, Jalen, Jabari and Judia; eight close cousins, Robert Loyal, Mary Hendricks who preceded her in death (Bryant Sr.), Annette Newsome, Donald Green Sr., Edward Green Jr. (Sheila), Gregory Green (Diane); two other first cousins, Cynthia Brown and Steven Brown; lifelong best fiend from college, Rose Mary Backus Davis Hamm; Godfather, Alfred O. Heath, M.D.; best friends, Ritza Hodge, Coreen Morron and Ilia Sebastien and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
