Lionell Harry Yewitt, age 74, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026. He was born on February 9, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Louis H. Yewitt, Sr. and Ethel L. Yewitt.
Lionell was a devoted husband to Sandy Yewitt, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, infectious humor, and unwavering love for his family and all who knew him.
He attended Baltimore City schools and graduated from Forest Park High School. Lionell worked various warehouse and mill jobs before discovering his true passion working at the deli at Crown’s Market. There, he became well known not only for making some of the best sandwiches around, but also for his genuine hospitality. Lionell had a gift for connecting with people—he made sure everyone left with a smile and a laugh.
The patriarch of his family, Lionell was outspoken, full of life, and truly the life of the party. He enjoyed playing cards with friends, listening to music, and watching movies on his big-screen television with the surround sound turned all the way up.
Later in life, Lionell gave his life to Christ and made it a priority to instill his faith in his children and grandchildren.
Lionell is survived by his wife, Sandy Yewitt; his sisters, Iris Arrington and Cheryl Landry; his sons, Lionell Yewitt Jr., Jamar Yewitt, Ivey Jay Yewitt, and Adam Yewitt; his beloved niece Omoya and nephew Joseph Yewitt; and his grandchildren, Elijah, Nathaniel, Noah, Jalen, Jaden, Lionell III, Jamar, and Josiah. He also leaves behind a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
