LINDA MARTIN was born on April 26, 1955, in Washington, D.C. at D.C. General Hospital to her loving mother, Wynonia Young. Linda received her education through the District of Columbia Public Schools System, attending elementary and middle schools before graduating from Cardozo High School in 1974. After graduation, she began her career working for the District of Columbia government. In 1989, Linda entered the trucking industry, where she worked for $ & J Trucking 2004 until 2009. She later continued her professional journey as an accountant from 2013 until her retirement in 2017.
Upon retiring, Linda devoted herself to the people and activities she loved most. She treasured spending time with family and friends and spent time as a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board. Her faith, kindness and willingness to serve others left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Linda was a devoted mother to her two children. Wynonia Lynnette Martin and Darnell Martin. She found her greatest joy in her family and especially cherished her role as grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love, guidance and unwavering, support were gifts she shared freely with those closest to her. Linda enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. She loved traveling, visiting the casino, cooking for family gatherings and creating cherished memories with her loved ones. Whether sharing a meal, telling stories, or celebrating special occasions. Linda's presence brought warmth, laughter and love to every room she entered.
On May 14, 2026, Linda peacefully departed this earthly life. While her passing leaves a tremendous void, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who preceded her in death, including her beloved Godmother, Mama Toney.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Wynonia Young; her children, Wynonia Martin (Clarence) and Darnell Martin; six beloved grandchildren, Dione (Tarina), Tyra (Devin). Sage, Omari, Anbrey and Ava and three treasured great-grandchildren, Azariah, Chance and Ta'Liyah, and her devoted cousin Ethel St. John. Along with a host of relatives, friends and loved ones whose lives were touched by her love and kindness.
Linda's life was defined by faith, hard work, devotion and unconditioned love for her family. Her legacy will continue to live on through the generations she nurtured and the countless lives she touched. Though she will be deeply missed, her beautiful spirit, warm, smile and loving heart will remain forever in our memories.
