LINDA MARIE GREEN was born on November 13, 1963 in Baltimore, MD to Sidney Leroy Stanley and Sarah Carolyn Stanley. Linda was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated in 1982 from Patterson High School and later attended Morgan St. University and Community College of Baltimore. Linda worked at Harte-Hanks Direst Marketing where she met the love of her life, Derrell Green and Linda quickly became attached to Darryl's oldest daughter, Auriel. After years of dating, the two were married on June 27, 1987 at Second Shiloh Desciples of Christ Church in Baltimore, MD. In June 1988, Linda gave birth to her only daughter, Nia.
In 1988, Linda's battle with renal kidney failure began. Linda was known for her unwavering faith and trust in God, so much so that every morning, before she did anything else, Linda prayed and read the Bible. it is because of this same faith and trust in God that Linda was able to persevere through her ailment and in January 1992, she received a kidney transplant. Typically, this kind of surgery adds 10-12 years to the recipient's life-Linda's transplant prolonged her life for 30 years.
To know Linda was to know of her love for educating children. During her daughter's elementary and middle school years, Linda was a volunteer at Nia's schools and was often recognized for her willingness to help and serve others. In 2001 Linda went to work at Children's Choice Learning Center at the Social Security Administration Metro West and in 2002 she opened her own family daycare program. It was no secret that children who were taught by Ms. Linda (as she was affectionately called) went on to surpass their peers in their formative educational years and it was a testament to her desire to see children educated. Linda also worked for Calvin Scruggs Funeral Home in Baltimore, MD until she was able to teach young children again at the Children's Choice Learning Center in 2009. From 2013 until her passing, Linda worked as a Before and After School Site Coordinator for The Y in Central Maryland, where she was known for running a "tight ship".
A few of Linda's favorite things included shopping, singing, listening to gospel music and attending worship at her church of nearly .30 years, First Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church. As a member of Mt. Olive, Linda served with the youth and young adult ministry, the nursery ministry, and the church choir. On October 22, 2006 Linda was ordained a Deaconess and regularly visited the sick and shut-in to serve communion or just to give an encouraging word. Of all of Linda's titles, none gave her more pride and joy than being her grandson's (Jackson) "Nana." Nearly every Friday, you could find Jackson and "Nana" together playing Mancala, reading books, eating pizza and watching movies.
On January 27, 2022, Linda departed this life surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of34 years, Darryl Green, her daughter Nia Jones, son-in-law Bryce Jones, grandson Jackson Andrew, 1 bonus-daughter Auriel Green, 4 bonus-grandchildren, her mother Sarah Morning, stepfather, henry Morning, 2 aunts (Virginia Bunch, Ethel Hill), 1 uncle (L.V.Bell), 3 siblings (Roger Stanley, Lorone Ruffin, Charlene Barnes), 16 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, a host of cousins and extended family members.
In January 2020, Linda wrote in her planner, "the quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important" and Linda's life and legacy is a true testament to this. Linda's life was well lived and she has received her eternal rest and reward in Heaven.
