Leroy James

Mr. Leroy James, son of the late Minnie and Angus James was born Sunday, May 5, 1940, in Eutawville, South Carolina. He moved to Baltimore in 1943 and at an early age professed his faith in Jesus Christ at Friendship Baptist Church. He later joined and was a dedicated member at Zion Baptist Church.

Leroy met the love of his life, former Hilda Pierce, and was united in holy matrimony on December 10, 1966. They enjoyed 54 years in a loving, trusting, caring and supportive marriage. For Leroy and Hilda, honesty and communication were the foundation that kept their union strong.

Leroy was employed and retired, as the beloved co-worker and Maintenance Supervisor at the Temple Oheb Shalom. He was well known everywhere he went and was absolutely a family man. He loved to cook. His famous macaroni and cheese and minced barbeque dishes were just a couple of the family’s favorites. Talking smack, playing cards and billiards, bowling and traveling were some of his favorite hobbies.

Leroy loved spending quality time with his children, grand-children, great grand-children and most of all his brother “Tim.” As a result of his generous spirit, positive energy, and resilient personality, he was loved by everyone he met, and he loved them right back.

Leroy departed this life on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at home with his dedicated and loving family encircling him. He was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny, and 2-sisters, Lucille and Bessiemay.

His life will be cherished by those who he is survived by: his devoted wife Hilda James, his only surviving brother Samuel “Tim” James (Teresa), Brothers In-Law Thomas “Cliff” Pierce (Augusta), Deacon Muciska Pierce (Elder Diane), Cornell Pierce of Missouri; Sisters In-Law Barbara Coleman, Betty Pierce, Rev. Marshell “Tina” Pierce-Morris (Deacon Kimmie); 7-children Brenda Johnson (Louis “Butch”), Tiombae James, Kevin Crawford, Channel James, Eugene Scott, Craig Crawford and Nicole Evans; 18-grandchildren Rhonda, Khrissy (Milan), Da’Quan, Ishay, Somia, Zyon, Zyron, Antione, Antonio, Tiasia, Chakiera, Nataya, Syr, Clarice, Latavia, Eugene, Tavon and Dana; 21-great-grandchildren Mekhi, Amir, Amar, Amil, Ahroy, Kaycen, McKensie, Jacob, Kaine, Karloss, Mason, Darnell, Noah, Zoey, Camiya, Jaela, Tyron, Tyrek, Taylor, Elijah and Kobi. His loving 2-Godchildren Ave Strawder and Nikki Little; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends
