Leland Johnson , son of the late Oakland Johnson and Esther Theodate Morris was born on April 28, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this life on August 28, 2025 after receiving medical care for a time in a nursing home and hospital. During his time of medical care treatment, his nephew(s) spent time with him and assisted with his care.
Leland attended school in Baltimore City and received his GED after enlisting in the military (Army). He enlisted in the Army and served decorously; enjoying the discipline, structure, and varied traditions and experiences of military life. Over the years, he established friendships and at times counseled and recruited others to enlist. In addition, he enjoyed talking about race relations, historians, and military trivia information. He preferred to be called "Sarge" and enjoyed talking to prospective enlistees emphasizing the advantages of joining the military, getting his/her life together, having a purpose or goal and staying on track as an adult.
After leaving active-duty military service, he became a U. S. Postal Service employee, from which he retired after 31 years of service in 2004; enjoying the fruits of his life, family and friends. Reginald Bradford is a friend and family member who was always there to help out or enjoy the day with Leland as comrades. Before and during Leland's retirement, he enjoyed entertaining, cooking and serving others.
Leland was preceded in death by brothers; Melvin Francis Johnson, Leslie Johnson, and Michael Morris Johnson and sisters: Vivian Montague, Victoria Harriet Adams, and Lucille Bell.
He leaves to mourn: his wife, Maggie (Dunbar) Johnson; sister, Leona Adams (Dennis Adams); sons, Santuan Johnson (Tamia Johnson). and John E. Dunbar (Christine Dunbar); and daughter, Shereta L. Johnson Wimbush (Christopher Wimbush). In addition, the grandchildren are: Tyre Johnson, Melvin Tuck, Talyah Johnson, De'Andre Tuck, Marlin Tuck, John Dunbar, Christopher Dunbar, Jamar Wimbush, Jokhari Maye, Israel Wimbush, and Karma Wimbush. He was also blessed with great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, additional family members and friends.
Leland will be sorely missed in times to come.
