LAWRENCE EDWARD WHITAKER SR., was born on July 29, 1945. He was the fifth of eleven children born to Martha and Joseph Whitaker Sr. He attended Baltimore City Public Schools and graduated from Baltimore City College in 1963. Lawrence enlisted in the US Army in July 1963. He rose to the rank of Sargent and earned the National Defense Service Medal for Marksmanship (Rifle) before being discharged in 1966. he began his career as a Maintenance Mechanic with Glidden Chemicals soon after and held this position until he retired in 2008. He was called to be with the Lord on Friday, December 10, 2021.
Lawrence met Joyce through mutual friends and they began dating in 1960. They married in 1966. They raised four children Deneen, Lawrence Jr., Parrish and Ulyssia together.
The family joined Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in 1973. Lawrence was an active member of the Blessed Sacrament Community for many years. He served as an usher. He was honored for his service to the Lord with the Mother Lange award.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Lawrence. He loved a quiet evening at home with Joyce and Snoopy and visiting family. He enjoyed watching westerns and the Washington Football Team.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Lawrence Whitaker Jr., and Parrish Whitaker; one daughter, Ulyssia Henderson; one son-in-law, Roderick Henderson Sr.; one daughter-in-law, Cherelle Whitaker; four grandchildren, Dychon Whitaker, DeAsia Whitaker, Roderick Henderson Jr., and Alexis Whitaker; one great granddaughter, Kamille Montford; his mother, Martha Whitaker; three sisters, Evelyn Headen, Mary Tyson and Marquerita Whitaker; one brother, Michael Whitaker; four sisters-in-law, Sharon Whitaker, Patricia Whitaker, Jacqueline Woods and Paula Simpson; two brothers-in-law, Willie Giggers Sr., and Richard Harris; and a host of other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Joyce (Simpson) Whitaker; his daughter, Deneen Whitaker; his father, Joseph Whitaker Sr., two sisters, Marie Giggers, and Ida Harris; four brothers, Andrew Whitaker Sr., .Antonio Whitaker, Joseph Whitaker Jr. and Henry Whitaker; three sisters-in-law Lillian Simpson, Beverly Simpson and Dorothy Hart.
