Laurentia Maria Strawder affectionately known

as Candy was born on February 27, 1942 to the late

Thelma Eley in Baltimore MD. She departed this life on

August 7,2017 after a brief illness. She graduated from

Frederick Douglass High School and attended Morgan

State University before enlisting in the United States

Army in 1961. She was honorably discharged in 1964.

She was employed by the US Postal Service, happily

retiring after over 30 years.

In her retirement, Candy enjoyed traveling the world,

line dancing anywhere and everywhere, and

passionately cheering for the Orioles and Ravens. She

was a lifelong active member of St. Francis Xavier

Catholic Church. She also served as Vice Grand Lady of

the Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court 323.

The Candy we all know and love was beautiful inside

and out with a smile that could light up anyone's day.

She was an exemplary mom and grandmother who

taught us about faith, loyalty, and service.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Monica

Sabree and Esther Payton (Shawn), grandchildren Dallas

E. Perry (Kim), Talice Marshall, Nia Carter (Max),

Ronnette 'Nikki' Colbert, Danielle Strawder, Shanitra

Payton, Michelle Payton, Ghais Sabree, Samina Sabree,

and great grandchildren Montez Carter, Melanie Strand,

Morgan Carter, Dallas A. Perry, and Aloni Hawkes. Her

Grandson Vance Williams preceded her in death. She

also had a devoted cousin Jacqueline Perrera and a host

of family and friends that will miss her dearly.
