Lance Vincent Ambrose was born on September 12, 1949, in East Baltimore, Maryland. He was the third child of Kenneth R. Ambrose and Sarah Inez Ambrose (Bailey). He departed this life on May 26, 2024, in Glen Burnie, MD while residing at Autum Lake Health Center.
His education began at St. Francis Xavier Elementary School where he served as an altar boy during mass, this is where he first developed an interest in music. Under the study of Mr. Holliman at the Lafayette Rec Center, Lance learned to play piano. He then trained with Mrs. Alice DeShazo, St. Francis Xaiver church pianist, and continued at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland. Lance attended Archbishop Curley High School where he also played piano in the school’s orchestra. Later he played for church services at St. Francis Xavier. He completed his education in 1972 by receiving his Bachelor of Arts at The Franciscan Order of Religious Studies at St. Hyacinth College in Massachusetts.
Lance was a social worker for the city of Baltimore in the early 70’s and was also a licensed Real Estate Broker. During this time, he returned to play the piano during masses at St. Frances Xaiver Catholic Church. In 2001, he took a position at Johns Hopkins University where he moved through various positions which lead him to become Research Program Coordinator of genetic studies for the School of Public Health. In addition, he was a certified Phlebotomist Technician and Clinical Research Professional as he held those positions for 16 years until he retired.
In his free time, Lance enjoyed playing piano for St. Cecillia’s Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. His abundance of volunteer work was recognized by the Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore with the Mother Mary Lange award. Also, Lance enjoyed preparing gourmet meals for family and friends especially during the holidays. His quick wit and laughter, sense of style and good fashion always made him stand out.
Lance was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth R. Ambrose; mother, Sarah Randolph (William Randolph); two brothers, Gerard Ambrose and Michael Brown; long-time friend, Eddie Bibbs.
He is survived by his three brothers Kenneth, Bruce, and Mark Ambrose; four sisters-in-law Juanita, Cecilia, Gena Ambrose, and Marylyn Brown; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
