Listen to Obituary

Joyce Fay Clark, fondly called Mother Clark, was the daughter of the late John and Eva Jacobs. She entered the world on July 1, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. The youngest of three children, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Barbara Wardlaw and James Tibbs.

Joyce received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System. She graduated from Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School in 1960. At an early age, Joyce played the clarinet and was part of Dunbar’s Marching Band. She also studied and spoke French. Joyce furthered her education by attending Greater Baltimore Medical Center Nursing School and Baltimore City Community College, earning her Associate of Arts Degree. Joyce was employed at University of Maryland Hospital Obstetrics Unit. She was a diligent and hardworking employee who served the University of Maryland for 28 years until her retirement on July 1, 2004.

Joyce was joined in holy matrimony to the late Gilbert Allen Clark, and they were blessed with two children, Scharbette Francine Clark and the late Eva LaWanda Clark. Mother Clark was baptized into God’s eternal family on July 10, 1952 at the Southern Baptist Church. She served as an active member of the Junior Usher Board from July 1950 until February 1960. In later years, she became a member of the Pastor’s Aide. In June 1982, Joyce moved her membership to Grace Baptist Church. She briefly served on the Pastor’s Aide and was in good standing in the Senior Ministry until her death.

Joyce memories will always be carried in the hearts of her loving and devoted daughter – Scharbette F. Clark; granddaughters – LaKebra A.
