Joann Green

January 26, 1958 — September 17, 2021

Listen to Obituary

JoAnn Green was born on January 26, 1958, in Baltimore, Maryland to Manuel Green and Zeola Mae Green, who both preceded her in death. On September 17, 2021, she passed away peacefully, from natural causes.

JoAnn was raised in the Catholic faith and received her early education at St. Ann's Catholic School. In her adult years, she received her high school diploma via a program in Baltimore City. She worked as a secretary at the Legal Aid Bureau, and later held the same position at the Office of Home Energy Programs.

Though she had a passion for her career, she was best at being a mother, and an even better grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and unconditionally. She spoiled her grandchildren to no end, doing her best to give them what they needed and desired. And, she always wanted them around.

Music and her stereo systems were her second loves. She always made sure she had the latest of them both. Then, she’d showcase them at one of her infamous parties. If you've never been to a JoAnn Green party, you've never partied. At these parties, she ensured that you were entertained, fed well, and "spirited", as there was always a variety of alcoholic beverages on deck; especially her favorite of them all, Mr. Jack Daniels.

JoAnn also loved playing scrabble and 5000, eating crabs, spending time with family, shopping, and dogs. Her "grand doggies", as she called them, are Lightning, Tippy, Velvet, and Tiny. She even spoiled them, buying them toys and treats, and giving them the “forbidden” treats they weren’t supposed to have. So, of course, they loved her back!

JoAnn was preceded in death by her son, Manuel Higgins.

She leaves to mourn, her daughters, Nicole Higgins and Kia Heard; four grandchildren, Deonte Johnson (who she affectionately named Mu Mu), Tashaye Blake (Gooch), Amira Wyatt (Boo Boo) and Amaya Wyatt (Pea; her self-proclaimed favorite); one great granddaughter, Lavender Johnson (Chubbs); one sister, Dorothy Smith; Special Cousin/Best Friend, Patricia Cannon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; all of whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed.
