Jessie Mae Davis was born on February 15, 1942, to the late Sara Jane Chisolm and Richard Woodard. All three of her sons William Jr., Stoney, and Roosevelt proceeded her in death.
Jessie was educated in Fairfield County, South Carolina.
Jessie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Red Hill Baptist Church in South, Carolina under the leadership of the late Rev. Charles Lane. She then moved to Baltimore, Maryland and became a member of New Pilgrim Baptist Church. In 1982, Jessie became one of the founding members of Greater Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. As a dedicated member she served on the Willing Workers, Mass Choir, Vocal Choir, and Mana Ministry.
Jessie married William Davis, Sr. in 1961. He proceeded her in death.
Her children were her life. Jessie was a loving, caring, and kind person; but with no problem with a smile would always tell you what’s on her mind. She was a mother to many of her children’s friends who came over often and enjoyed a good meal. She would feed anybody. The one thing about Jessie and all her sisters they could cook.
Jessie loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren. Where ever you saw her you saw her daughters. She enjoyed playing bingo, shopping, going to the flea market, taking trips, watching the Ravens game, and most of all being at family functions where she was the life of the party.
Jessie worked at the Supremum White House Company, Monumental Life Building, Fayette Health Rehabilitation Center, and the Mayor’s Office of Employment Development before her retirement. She would always say live your life today because tomorrow isn’t promised.
All her siblings except for two have proceeded her in death, and one granddaughter Donnetta Davis.
Jessie leaves to mourn two daughters Jeanette Davis-Royster (David) and Shanelle McQueen (Vincent), two sisters Estelle Foster and Dorethe Perry. Ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, one close friend Felicia Harris, and a host of relatives, family, and friends.
