Jeanette J. Harris was born on Thursday, November 4, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the youngest daughter of 11 children born to Bertha and Abraham Scovens. She peacefully transitioned from this life on March 25, 2020 at 12:21pm.

Jeanette received her education at Barclay Elementary School and Hill Street High School in Baltimore, MD. Upon completion of high school she became a full time Nursing Assistant, a wonderful cook for the community and a caregiver for the youth. People would come from all over the city to taste and purchase her great cooking. Jeanette was a strong determined and fiercely independent woman. She was a lifelong member of Victorious Life Worship Center, where she was known as “The Church Mother”.

On September 22, 1961, Jeanette Scovens was joined in holy matrimony to her husband Herbert Harris Sr. at Florence Shorter house. Jeanette gave birth to seven beautiful children, Herbert Harris Jr., Ronnie Harris, Larry Scovens Sr., Patricia Ware, Curtis Harris Sr., Crystal Edwards and Ada Scott. Jeanette was given nick name “Jenny Baby,” by her friends and loved ones.

Jeanette loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom all kept her young. She enjoyed playing games such as bingo and several card games like spades, pinochle, pokeno and bed whist with her family and friends. Jeanette enjoyed watching Westerns and all old movies as her favorite passtime. Her favorite foods were hogmaws and chitlins, pig feet, turkey, collard greens and she also liked baked macaroni and cheese which she was well- known for making.

She leaves to mourn: five children; Larry (Shenell) Scovens, Curtis (Cynthia) Harris, Patricia Ware, Crystal Edwards and Ada Scott; 23 grandchildren; Ronnie Jr., Sherrell, Dante, Gurnie, Denishia, Shane, Nickelle, Antonio, Maurice, TyKeisha, TyKeita, Charniece, Charniqua, Curtis Jr. , MyLisa, Courtney, Ciera, Cherice, Larry Jr., La’Ticia, Larron, Kimberly and Kenisha ; 41 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Winder and Delores Coates; two brothers, Ernest Scovens Sr. and Hamlet Scovens Sr. (preceded her in death); her husband, Herbert Harris Sr. (preceded her in death); two sons; Herbert Harris Jr. and Ronnie Harris Sr.; her two son in-laws, Gurnie Edwards and Henry Green ; (preceded her in death) four brothers, Thomas Scovens, Robert Allen, John Scovens Sr., and Gerald Scovens Sr.; two sisters, Thelma Meeks and Ruth Bost (preceded her in death); 4 brother in-laws; Frank Coates, John Bost;, Joseph Winder and William Meeks; 3 sister in-laws; and (preceded her in death), beloved devoted family friend; Grady Monroe, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
