Listen to Obituary

On January 6, 1987, in Baltimore, Maryland a beautiful baby boy was born to Paul Irvin Jones and Nicole Burch. They named this adorable blessing Jarrod Mitchell Jones.

Jarrod had an extraordinary upbringing as he was raised by his father Paul. Jarrod and his “Daddy” was inseparable, he was his father’s everything. As Jarrod matured into a man “Daddy” became “Dad”. Jarrod had a particularly special relationship with his grandfather Paul, Sr. (deceased 2009) who affectionately called him “Mookaman”, his number one lady, his grandmother Barbara, his aunts, Teresa, Kim, Audrey (deceased 2001) and LaTarsa; and his two cousins Greg (deceased 2015) and Capria who were like his siblings. Greg, Jarrod and Capria were three peas in a pod. Jarrod was surrounded by a huge family, neighborhood and entire village who loved him and always looked out for him. He was the entire community’s ‘nephew’. The love he received is immeasurable.

At an early age Jarrod attended Israel Baptist Church with his family and learned of the goodness of Jesus Christ. He enjoyed going to Sunday Worship and participated in various church activities. Jarrod attended Sunday Church School, Vacation Bible School, Retreats, Lock- Ins, and other youth activities. He also sang in the Rosebuds Children's Choir. When he was a little boy, you could always find him in the church dining hall with the first plate of chicken whenever dinner was being served. He especially liked getting treat bags full of candy on Easter Sunday. Jarrod was known for his dapper church attire; particularly his Easter Sunday outfits. Jarrod knew Christ for himself, he accepted him as his personal Savior. He received the Plan of Salvation on June 9, 2019, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Harlie W. Wilson, II.

As a youth Jarrod was a four-sport athlete, who played baseball, basketball, football, and swimming. He enjoyed playing basketball for the Madison Square Buccaneers, baseball for both Northwood and Harford Park Baseball Clubs and Football for the Northwood Rams. He and his Rams teammates twice participated in the Pop Warner Football League Superbowl at the Disney Complex in Orlando, Florida, which they won in 2001. An exceptional swimmer, Jarrod earned his Lifeguard Certification and served as a lifeguard at the Oliver Community Pool. His swimming skills were so exceptional that he served as an unofficial lifeguard before he was old enough to become an official lifeguard. Jarrod was not your typical lifeguard who simply saved those who could not swim, he would often teach this life saving skill to many of the younger children who frequented the pool. He was an outstanding swimmer and could swim in depths 100 feet or more. Jarrod was an exceptional athlete who excelled in every sport He played, but his passion was football.

Jarrod received his education in both the Baltimore Archdiocese Catholic School and Baltimore City Public School Systems. He was an excellent student who loved math and history. He would often sit with his grandfather Paul and listen to his stories and learn all he could. Jarrod was a talented orator who possessed dramatic reading, public speaking and exceptional poetry reading skills. His oratory skills were displayed with confidence and conviction…he could read the heck out of a poem. Those who knew him know, if he was passionate about a subject or topic he would not shut up. Jarrod received his high school diploma and went on to gain various employment opportunities with Express Bakery Co., 7-11 Corp. and BWI Airport.

On December 14, 2018, a new love entered Jarrod’s life, his son Jarrod Dylan Jones was born. Although he only had three short years with his son, the love he showed him and the memories they created will last a lifetime. To watch him love, care, and nurture his son just as his father did with him was such a joyous sight to see.

Jarrod’s attributes are many to mention but his smile, his witty personality and abundant love for his entire family are undeniable. His smile could light up a room and his quick comebacks would have you laughing out loud. Spending time with family was the highlight of who he was. Jarrod made it his business to not only to know his first cousins, but he knew cousins throughout all generations of the family. Everybody knew Jarrod would pop up at the door at any time. He seized every opportunity to gather with his family. He loved cookouts, reunions, holidays, vacations, and those spare of the moment gatherings, to him, were the best. In his mind no one could cook like his family. Jarrod was a one-of-a-kind young man who had no boundaries or fears. He lived life in the moment.

On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, Jarrod was unexpectedly called home to live in a mansion not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (2 Corinthians 5:1)

Jarrod leaves to cherish his loving memories and beautiful smile, his son Jarrod Dylan, father Paul; mother Nicole; Stepmother Gabrielle; grandmother Barbara whom he called his Special Love; one brother-Grant; two step-brothers Bobby and Christopher; three sisters-De’Jonae, De’Nirra and DiRonnique; five aunts-Teresa, Kim, LaTarsa, Rhonda and Shavon; four uncles-Kirk, Gregory, Sr., Westley and Joseph; his sister/cousin Capria and two special cousins Gregory, Jr. and Paige; a special friend Mercedes and her son Darien; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
