On June 28th 2020 God called a wonderful man home for his eternal rest.

James Thomas Yates, was born in November 20th 1945 in Suffolk, Virginia. He was the son of the late Nathaniel Lawrence and the late Viola Eure. He later moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1949, with his aunt and uncle. He was 4 years old. He adored his aunt Lessie who he fondly called “LaLay”.

In September 1973, he met and married Annette James. From that union Michelle was born. James received his education in the Baltimore School System and his Christian experience from Sharon Baptist Church in Baltimore as well.

James occupation was a construction laborer. He worked for numerous construction companies including, J&W Construction in Washington DC, Arundel Asphalt and Micro Mirror.

James also was a wonderful Mechanic. He had many customers and for those of you who knew him will remember his big heart and generosity. He also had a great sense of humor and a bright smile. Once you met him, you would always be a friend and never a stranger.

James was preceded in death by his father Nathaniel Lawrence and his mother Viola Eure and his uncle George Bey.

Loved by many he leaves to cherish his memory, his 96 year old aunt, Lessie Bey; one daughter, Michelle Yates; five grandchildren, Lukeda, Shanay, Keyon, Kenneth and Thomas, eight great grandchildren, his cousins, Joyce Johnson, (Clarence) and Annette James; nephew’s, Darrell (Quianna) and Randy (Monique), and also very special close friends, Cheryl, Bobby, King and Dan; and a host of other friends and relatives.
