Listen to Obituary

James Singleton, known to his neighbors and friends as “Mr. James”, was born in 1933 to the late Annie Singleton and James Washington in Jamestown, South Carolina. He departed this life on August 22, 2021, after a short illness.

James was the youngest of his siblings and while still a teenager, moved to Baltimore, Maryland. For twenty-four years he worked for Western Maryland Railroad. He was employed by Patapsco Back River Neck Rail system for thirty-eight years before retiring. Needless to say, James had a very strong work ethic.

In Baltimore he met Beulah Johnson and they married in1954. From this union they had one daughter, Cassandra, affectionately known as “Candy”. James and Beulah later separated and he met and befriended Julia Price. Their relationship lasted for more than thirty years until her death.

James loved being outdoors. He rose every morning and sat on the front porch where he could watch over his beloved neighborhood. From sunup to sundown, joined by his pal, Raven, his pet dog and good friend. James also loved listening to music and often played his records. He also watched western movies, with the old ones being his favorite. James loved to shop for his favorite denim jeans (blue only) and Stacy Adams shoes. In his own words, “No sandals-no sneakers”!

James leaves to cherish his memory, daughter, Candy; grandson, Myron; great- grandchildren, Myia, Mykera, Tamara, Makayah, Antonio, Monte, Myron Jr., Myron III and Mason; great-great grandchildren- Jayden, Demario, Ashlyn, Amiah, Lee-Lee, Amera, D.J. and Kamori; sister-in-law, Grace Washington; brother in-law, Nathaniel Flashman and a host of other relatives and friends
