Rev. James M. Jones Sr.

REV. JAMES M. JONES, SR., a native of Farmville, Virginia (Prince Edward County), was born February 27, 1930. His parents, John H. Jones and Lillie Frances Jones, had eleven children. He attended school in Prince Edward County, Virginia. He came to Baltimore in 1946. Soon afterwards, he joined the army and served two terms (11th Airborne Division-"Angels") achieving an Honorable Discharge on February 18, 1953.

Rev. James accepted the call to preach on December 1, 1972 from The Baptist Church of The Good Shepherd Ministerial Alliance under the leadership of Pastor David Epley. He joined Nazarene Baptist Church where he served as associate pastor. Later, he joined New Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Ralph D. White.

Rev. Jones had many jobs during his lifetime in the areas of carpentry, construction and cement finishing for Whiting-Turner Contracting Company.

Rev. Jones loved the Word of God and interceding for his family. He portrayed a great sense of humor, even while dealing with his illness. He demonstrated great faith and proclaimed: "God don't make any mistakes!".

Rev. Jones was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings (John, Thomas, George, Cora, Laura, Molly, Sarah and Manford). His sister Rosetta Davis transitioned three days after his departure.

He leaves to mourn: his devoted wife of 42 years, Mrs. Dorine Jones; two sisters, Genevia Lyles and Mary Oliver; five sons, James M. Jones, Jr., Richard Honeyblue and daughter-in-law Mary, Charles Honeyblue, Anthony Honeyblue and Warren Watson, Jr.; four daughters; one daughter Gwendolyn Epps preceded him in death, Grace Richardson, Gloria Jones, Sheila Burgess & son-in-law Charles, Darlene Young & son-in-law Darnell; along with a great host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
